The Story of State Recovery – A Successful Economic Development Plan

As people and companies came to Arizona, growth became an industry in itself, a situation containing the seeds of its own demise. Arizona’s economy self-destructed in the mid 80’s. Arizona literally hit the end of an era. Arizona’s State budget ran into a $400 million dollar deficit.

Arizona, along with other parts of the country, was also to be affected by the down sizing of the aerospace/defense cutbacks and corporate downsizing. Published articles alluded to Arizona as the ghost state. It’s seems so obvious now that you can’t endlessly add people, sell and swap real estate, and continually support more housing, more grocery stores, more dentists and more schools. Something had to give.
