Butte-based National Center for Appropriate Technology looking for alternative funding

Butte-based National Center for Appropriate Technology http://www.ncat.org/ is exploring its options after budget reductions eliminated money for one of its longest running programs, according to a news release.

The elimination forced the nonprofit, which also operates regional offices in Arkansas, California, Iowa, Pennsylvania and Texas, to cut 20 jobs last month, including nine in Butte.

The National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service, also known as ATTTRA, operated as a source for information on sustainable agriculture since 1987. It had been allocated $2.8 million last fiscal year, but was zeroed-out in the latest budget.
