Valve clip on transplanted heart at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Montana, a first in nation

Last year, when Jack Beeman realized something bad was going on with his heart, he was in just about the last place in America you’d want to be at such a moment: walking the water lines on his rural property in north-central Washington – "the back of beyond," as he calls it.

Last Thursday, Beeman was in the first place in America to successfully solve his condition without resorting to risky open heart surgery.
