University of Montana communication students mentor prisoners

Natalie Caplis was apprehensive when she initially began mentoring a convicted felon.
When she first wrote to him, introducing herself, she was nervous about giving him her last name, but now after working with him for nearly two months to come up with a plan to start his own business, she has removed the stereotype of prison inmates from her head.
"These guys have a lot of stereotypes and stigma surrounding them, and they just kind of surprise you once you start working with them," Caplis said.
