MSU Leadership Institute students thank you so much!

Dear Friends of the MSU Leadership Institute,

On behalf of the student staff and volunteers, we thank you so much for your support last night! What a wonderful turnout – and we also noticed that you behaved yourself around the "mocktails" barJ.

And personally, it was very meaningful to see so many familiar faces, and close friends, supporting both literacy and this important MSU student leadership. If you brought a guest, please pass our sincere appreciation onto them, too.

As we move forward towards fulfilling our $750,000 endowment, your ongoing support will allow us to broaden our leadership offerings. For those of you who added to your ticket with a donation, your gift will be mailed by the end of April or earlier – thank you!

The students have told me that the learned "a ton" by taking this on – and they also really enjoyed the personal interactions with each of you. At tomorrow’s staff meeting they will deconstruct, reconstruct, figure out how to improve, pat backs, and celebrate the "crazy good" and meaningful generosity of all of you that attended La Fiesta Cubana and Cuba’s Road to Literacy.

We have a tradition of "Shout Outs" for good work at the MSU Leadership Institute:

"Shout Out" to Jan Strout for bringing the film, literacy fair, and the extraordinaire Norman Guillard and Catherine Murphy

"Shout Out" to Latrelle Sherffius for her wonderful photographs of the Cuban people

"Shout Out" to student Adel Nehmeh and the amazing student salsa dancing volunteers – please forward this email to all them, and especially Pamela, as we do not have their email addresses

"Shout Out" to Patricia Catoira for skillfully serving as Norma’s interpreter

"Shout Out" to Valerie Hemingway for her touching talk, and for her endowment raising book signing

"Shout Out" to our table hosts for you generous spirit – thank you

"Shout Out" to MSU Catering, and especially Paul Birkeland, for skillfully executing our Cuban menu and student event, and providing some really good "mocktails"J that inspired many of us to salsa

"Shout Out" to our board members Conrad Anker, Greg Young and Phyllis Bock for attending and bringing guests

"Shout Out" to students Kate Padula and Dani Lindner for taking the lead and coordination of the two Cuba events and the staff/volunteers

"Shout Out" to ALL the LI student associates, and volunteer ASMSU VP Joey Steffens for supporting all the many details of the evening and preweek prep

"Shout Out" to those of you who could not come…and even so, you sent a check in support – thank you!

AND YES…"Shout Out" to ALL OF YOU, for your willingness to join us on our student leadership journey with our first outreach effort. We’ll be doing more of this, and getting better and better – and we hope that you will join us again.

Sincerest thanks,

-Carmen
