Rick Bass: working to protect a special place – The Yaak Valley of Montana

The Yaak Valley lies nestled in the Kootenai National Forest, in the extreme northwest corner of Montana. Pines of all kinds fill the landscape. It’s a link in the chain of wildlands that sweep north from Montana into Canada.

Wildlife inhabitants include grizzly bears, wolves, mountain lions, marten, fisher, mountain goats, great gray owls, bull trout, westslope cutthroat trout and many other creatures. Nothing has yet gone extinct there – a testament to the Yaak’s strength and resiliency.

But not a single acre of the valley is permanently protected.
