Missoula schools prepare for possible job, program cuts
March 27, 2011/
The financial forecast is in limbo largely due to the Montana Legislature. Districts across the state are in the same straits, operating in a fog of uncertainty about money.
On Monday, 90 teachers in the Missoula County Public Schools district will be handed a piece of paper officially notifying them that their jobs are in peril.
Nearly every nontenured MCPS teacher – those who have three years or fewer in the district – has been warned of the dismal reality: The notices are coming; the district will not renew their contracts until it gets a better picture of its budget forecast.
