Help Pass House Bill 439 – 2,400 students crammed into building constructed for 700. – Crowded College of Technology awaits word on legislative funding for new building

The 1960s school building constructed for 700 students doesn’t accommodate today’s enrollment of 2,400 students. The UM COT is the largest and fastest growing two-year college in the state.

In the last decade, Montana began emphasizing two-year education, and with rising enrollment, one could say the effort has started to pay off. The economy contributed, too, as laid-off workers returning to school.

Yet, there’s still a stigma associated with two-year education. Call the COT a "vo-tech" and two-year educators will cringe. It’s more than a technical training school, Good says. It produces nurses and radiology technicians, offers anatomy and physiology classes, and prepares students to make the leap to a four-year college.
