Future energy: Montana Governor Schweitzer envisions Montana Tech center

Gov. Brian Schweitzer would like to build an energy and technology research center in conjunction with private industry that would be tied to Montana Tech and paid for with a combination of private and state money from coal.

"I’ve got plans for Tech," Schweitzer said Thursday to the editorial board of The Montana Standard. "I want Montana to be known as the place for scientists and engineers."

The governor said he would like to build a Montana institute of energy and technology by spending a significant portion of state revenue from the Otter Creek coal tracts. He said that’s projected to bring in $20 billion in revenue over the next few decades and that money could fund an institute housed on the Tech campus.
