Montana high school students interested in medical careers urged to apply for free MedStart camp

The camp is free for accepted students, and housing, food and other associated costs are provided.

MedStart camps are sponsored by Montana’s Area Health Education Centers, which work to improve access to health care in rural and disadvantaged communities by encouraging students to consider and prepare for careers in health.

High school students entering their junior or senior year are encouraged to apply to attend MedStart http://www.mtahec.org/ , a weeklong camp focused on exploring the many possibilities of health careers.

Students attending MedStart will meet health care providers from many different professions and have the opportunity to "job shadow" a professional. Hands-on activities such as suturing, DNA extraction and dissections will also take place, along with tours of hospitals, labs and other sites. Attendees will live in college dormitories for the week, and learn about college applications and financial aid. Social and recreational activities are also planned.

Three MedStart camps are planned this year – in Missoula, Billings and Bozeman – and will provide space for 70 students total.
