Auto ed classes rev up in Montana

Stopwatch in hand, Paris Gibson High School senior Lindsay Walters offered some encouragement from the sidelines during a sparkplug removal contest taking place in the school district’s Auto Tech Center last week.

"You’re doing great, keep it up and you are going to beat the boys," she told a middle school female student participating in the timed event.

Walters was among the Great Falls Public School’s auto program students participating in a couple of competitions designed to both test skills and introduce a wider audience to the curriculum offered.

High school students played host to about 170 students from East and North middle schools, giving them tours of the center, which opened four and a half years ago, showing off its equipment and organizing a couple of contests.

Teams from the city’s three high schools also were competing against each other, assembling engines that will be tested on a dynamometer next week to determine which performs the best.
