Boise State University considers year-round classes, other options

"It doesn’t make any sense to have this large campus lying relatively idle over the summer," he said.

Boise State University http://www.boisestate.edu/ is exploring options such as a year-round, three-semester academic calendar and more online classes to save money. But lawmakers on Jan. 26 pressed the state’s largest university to take another look at its reserves as they sought ways to keep from cutting programs or raising revenues.

"We’re exploring what has been done at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and closer to home at BYU-Idaho," Boise State President Bob Kustra told the Joint-Finance Appropriations Committee at a hearing on Boise State’s budget and policy plans for the coming year.
