Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer "State of the State": Growing Montana economy can finance top-drawer education

"If (the Legislature) chooses to decrease our support for public education, you do so as a reflection of your values, not for lack of available resources. We have the money in the bank."

Gov. Brian Schweitzer http://governor.mt.gov/, repeating familiar themes in his final State of the State address, told lawmakers and a statewide broadcast audience Wednesday night that Montana’s economy is beginning to boom and can easily finance a top-drawer education system, without making big budget cuts.

The Democratic governor, whose final term expires in 2012, talked up the recent successes of natural-resource and other businesses in Montana, and urged lawmakers of the 2011 Legislature to work together to bring the state higher-paying jobs.
