Build new Missoula College of Technology to bolster economy: Let Legislature know we need new facilities to train workers

For too many years now the students, staff and faculty at the University of Montana’s College of Technology have been making do with old and outgrown facilities.

More than 2,400 students are squeezed into a building complex originally meant to accommodate no more than 700. Over the years, the college has been adjusted and expanded – sometimes by the students themselves, as when carpentry students helped construct new quarters last fall – until it has come to resemble the higher education equivalent of a patchwork quilt. Some classes are now being held in modular trailers.

This is not a selling point for prospective students and university employees.
