Iowa considering creating economic development authority

Iowa’s next economic development agency could be an authority, the state’s new economic development leader said today.

Director Debi Durham told the Iowa Economic Development Board https://openup.iowa.gov/board/Iowa+Economic+Development+Board/56/ today a bill is being drafted that would create an economic development authority to replace the existing state agency.

Gov. Terry Branstad http://www.governor.iowa.gov/ wants to scrap the existing agency for a public-private partnership that would be more responsive to new and existing businesses that are interested in generating jobs. He’s called the proposed agency the Iowa Partnership for Economic Progress.
