Montana Senator Max Baucus’ Statement Regarding GE CEO Jeff Immelt’s New Post as chairman of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness

Montana’s senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus http://baucus.senate.gov/ issued the following statement in regards to the news General Electric http://www.ge.com CEO Jeff Immelt has been named chairman of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/01/21/announcing-new-council-jobs-and-competitiveness :

"Jeff’s got a lot of great experience and ideas which is why I brought him to Montana. From his experience in Big Sky Country, he knows how hard we’re working to create good-paying jobs. I wish him the best in his new post and will keep working with him and others to create new manufacturing opportunities and jobs for Montana."

Immelt was a keynote speaker at Baucus’ 5th Economic Development Summit http://www.montanaeconomicsummit.org/ in Butte in September. As a result of the summit, GE and Butte-based Seacast are working out a manufacturing agreement for jet engine parts that will boost local job opportunities.

Following Baucus’ invitation to top GE officials to visit Montana and participate in his 2007 Economic Development Summit, GE built its Center of Excellence processing center in Billings which currently employs 150 people. During Immelt’s visit to Montana September 2010, GE announced they would be adding an additional 100 jobs at the facility.
