Wyoming teacher tenure debate heats up

Wyoming teachers’ union officials on Thursday slammed proposed legislation to eliminate "teacher tenure," saying it would remove safeguards that keep teachers from being fired arbitrarily.

Senate File 52, titled the "teacher tenure" bill, removes "continuing-contract" status from the state’s teacher employment law. Teachers obtain continuing-contract status after serving three years in a particular school district and thus have their contracts automatically renewed annually unless they resign, retire or are lawfully dismissed.
