The Portland Development Commission unveils effort to nurture athletics and outdoor business cluster in Oregon

Oregon’s athletics and outdoor industry was little more than a smattering of small companies four decades ago. And then along came Nike.

Today, Nike employs nearly 7,000 people in Oregon and some 33,000 worldwide. Along with Columbia Sportswear and Adidas America, the trio has formed the foundation of a burgeoning industry that Portland-area boosters like to call the world’s premier athletics and outdoor industry cluster.

The Portland Development Commission http://www.pdc.us/ announced Tuesday a new "action plan" to nurture the sector and help it continue to grow economically.
