Montana regents to discuss in-state tuition rates for graduate students – Record number of Chinese students flock to US colleges – California court backs in-state tuition for illegal immigrants

Prospective graduate students pondering where they want to spend their late nights doing research or grading papers as they earn their next degree could see a new incentive to choose Montana http://www.mus.edu/ next year.

When the Board of Regents meets at The University of Montana this week, members will consider allowing universities in the state to set tuition for non-resident graduate research and teaching assistants at in-state rates.

"This would put us in a far more competitive position to attract top graduate students to our program," said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Perry Brown.

Montana is one of three states without such a policy, he said.

Record number of Chinese students flock to US colleges

The recession is affecting some American and foreign students’ plans to study abroad – but not, apparently, those of the Chinese.

Last year, nearly 130,000 Chinese students studied in the US – a record number, and a 30 percent increase from the year before.
