Change in wind for Montana’s University system

The state university system has lots to offer Montana students. With new leadership, it’s time to open the floodgates so that no student who desires a higher education is denied.

We were heartened by UM President Royce Engstrom’s visit to the Mining City last week.

He met with students, faculty, state lawmakers and business people.

Engstrom’s message was consistent throughout the visit: Maintain the quality of education for the students without adding more of a financial burden on them; keep the campuses competitive by recruiting the best professors possible; and continue to upgrade the infrastructure of buildings to attract both students and faculty.

All three will be tough to achieve in light of a tight-fisted legislative budget session about to take flight in January.
