Changing perceptions of 2-year schools in Montana

Get ready to hear a lot more about Montana’s two-year colleges.

The entire higher education community in Montana is banding together to fight the widespread – but incorrect – public perception that two-year colleges are tied down to the old vo-tech model, that they lack the support of the statewide university system and are, consequently, second-rate institutions attended only as a second choice.

This perception correction is part of Montana’s Two-Year College Initiative, a new effort aimed at making the state’s two-year colleges more accessible to students. And it is crucial that the state start turning out more college-educated workers in order to ensure Montana has a well-paid, competitive work force in the years ahead.
