University of Montana bee research in national spotlight

CBS News correspondent John Blackstone will report on Wednesday evening from Missoula on a new probable cause for "colony collapse disorder," a condition that is affecting honeybees.

American beekeepers have lost at least a million hives, about a third of the nation’s commercial honeybees, since the disorder first struck in 2007.

Ever since then, University of Montana researcher Jerry Bromenshenk has been searching for the killer, and after screening bees for 30,000 disease markers, a group of scientists led by Bromenshenk now says they have found a probable cause.
