Governor and American Pulses Announce Expansion in Montana

Governor Brian Schweitzer and Anish Vaid, President of American Pulses, Ltd. http://www.americanpulses.com/ today announced the company intends to expand their operations in Montana and plan to take advantage of a new international container handling facility located in Shelby, MT. The facility is currently under development, and includes a rail spur that has received a $134,824.89 loan from the Montana Department of Transportation.

“This kind of agriculture value-adding investment is a win-win for Montana,” said Governor Schweitzer. “Producers benefit from being able to diversify their crops and have a local buyer for them and in return, American Pulses is able to showcase Montana grown products all over the world.”

American Pulses anticipates investing a substantial sum in Montana and creating nearly 60 jobs across six communities in rural Montana. In addition to the developments in Shelby, the company currently owns facilities in Hingham, Kremlin, Inverness, Malta and Broadview with plans to make additional investments in other communities in Montana.

In their first year of operations, American Pulses has been well received by Montana producers, with contracted acres in over 12 counties spanning from Cut Bank to Forsyth.

American Pulses Ltd., based in Hingham, Montana, is a pulse crop processor and exporter. Pulse crops are crops that build up nitrogen in the soil. The company grades, splits, cleans and processes pulses including lentils, chick peas, green peas and yellow peas.

The decorticating (skinning), splitting, and milling processes will result in products such as split peas and lentils, lentil footballs, chick pea flour, pea flour and various ethnic snack foods.

By-products will be used in local livestock feeding operations.

American Pulses Ltd. will export its complete range of products to markets in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, South Africa, the Middle East, North America, South America, Latin America, and Europe.

“Governor Schweitzer and his administration, including the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of Transportation have been instrumental in helping American Pulses get this extensive agricultural value-adding export project off the ground. We appreciate the high quality of Montana’s agricultural products and look forward to fulfilling market needs in many other countries,” said Vaid of American Pulses.
