School district adding excitement to math in Montana

Ask a few high school students how much they love to be in math class and many would be likely tell you they’d rather visit the dentist.

But as this school year gets under way, one new face in Great Falls Public Schools is working to change that perception radically with the help of math teachers across the district.

"(Students) have to come away from mathematics feeling empowered rather than exposed and insecure," said Dave Thomas, a math consultant for the school district. "We have to get in every school a little ‘clique’ that says, ‘you won’t believe what we did today in math!’"
