Governor Schweitzer announces Montana budget cuts

Governor Brian Schweitzer announced his decision regarding budget reductions, and also released a hold on all the local government grant money and historic preservation funds contained in HB 645.

Most state agencies will see a five percent reduction, while the Department of Transportation and the Department of Commerce will have reductions of 10 percent in their funding.

"While the state financial picture is looking brighter, I am still insisting we show fiscal constraint. I am moving forward with most of the reduction measures recommended by the budget office in February," Schweitzer said.

Schweitzer announced several changes to the budget director’s recommendations, including the restoration of funding for certain social services programs aimed at individuals with disabilities.
