Demand for Montana’s Supercomputer Exceeds Capacity – "Big Sky Blue"

Operators of the Butte-based supercomputer say demand for the system, which opened just over a year ago, is growing and it’s time to expand.

Earl Dodd, executive director of the nonprofit Rocky Mountain Supercomputing Center http://www.rmscinc.org/ , 65 E. Broadway St., says he’ll ask commissioners Wednesday to help fund an upgrade.

"We are out of capability now," he said. "To meet the demand we must grow."

Dodd says he’ll update commissioners on the center’s growth over the past year and ask them to forgive $25,000, or 20 percent, of a $125,000 loan that council granted last year.
