Montana Career Opportunity – Director of Finance and Administration – The Indian Law Resource Center

The Indian Law Resource Center, an international American Indian human rights
advocacy organization based in Helena, Montana, seeks a Director of Finance and
Administration to manage all activities related to the finances, human resources, and
operations of the organization.

The person will report to the Executive Director and will
work as a member of the senior management team with the staff and Board of Directors.

Specific responsibilities include:

Position Description and Criteria

Financial Management

Produce nonprofit financial reports in accordance with GAAP; present accurate and
timely financial information to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Project
Directors; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; and oversee all
financial, project/program, and grants accounting.
Coordinate the annual audit process, communicate with external auditors and the Finance
Committee of the Board of Directors.

Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the
Executive Director; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor
progress to keep Project Directors abreast of the organization’s financial status.

Administer restricted grants. Track reporting deadlines for foundation grants.

Manage organizational cash flow and revenue forecasting.
Responsible for payroll and benefits functions, including biweekly payroll; periodic
withholdings processing and reporting; and related monthly, quarterly, and annual filings.

Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices.

Oversee the cash management function, including ongoing banking relationships.

Responsible for the management of the Center’s insurance and risk management,
including overseeing the annual insurance renewal process for general and professional
liability and other business-related insurance.

Develop and oversee accounting policies and procedures.
Administrative Leadership and Management
Coordinate with outside information technology vendors and technical support staff to
ensure the efficient functioning of the Center’s computers, network, and
telecommunications infrastructure.

Manage the organization’s facilities and system maintenance (building and grounds
maintenance, office cleaning services, etc.).

Human Resources

Administer and explain benefits to employees, serve as liaison between employees and
pension, 403(b), and insurance providers.

Further develop human resources and administrative processes, enhancing professional
development, compensation and benefits, leave, and performance evaluation.

Establish and manage a program to educate employees regarding staff policies and
procedures.
Work closely with external partners including third-party vendors and consultants.

Maintain contract files and appropriate paperwork for independent contractors.

Qualifications

Minimum of a BA, ideally with a CPA, MBA, or similar degree in a relevant field.

At least 7 years of overall professional experience; ideally 4+ years of broad financial
and
operations management experience. Demonstrated experience in financial management
and accounting, ideally in the nonprofit sector.

Ideal candidate has had final responsibility for the quality and content of financial data,
reporting and audit coordination for an organization or significant program.

Ability to effectively collaborate with and to communicate financial concepts to
programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance
backgrounds.

Experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships
with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software. Have the
ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement
new processes and systems that increased efficiency.

Flexible and a self-starter; able to manage multiple priorities while also being highly
detail-oriented.
