Bozeman-area Internet company’s (Montana Opticom) $64 million grant raises concerns

Internet service providers in the Bozeman area are questioning a $64 million federal grant to a little-known competitor, saying the money is supposed to finance expansion of high-speed access in underserved or unserved areas – and that west Gallatin County isn’t one of those places.

"All (the grant) is doing is providing federal funding to a new competitor in the valley, and the rest of us have to compete without that money," said Scott Johnson, president of Bozeman-based Global Net http://www.theglobal.net/ , a wireless Internet company.
