Montana lawmakers want tougher renewable energy requirement for utilities

A panel of state lawmakers has endorsed drafting a bill to increase the amount of renewable energy that Montana electric utilities must supply their customers to 25 percent of the utility’s power supply by 2025.

The Energy and Telecommunications Interim Committee also voted to support drafting a bill to amend Montana’s definition of renewable energy to include expansion of existing hydroelectric power plants.
