Northwest aviation leaders aim to develop a regional biofuel industry

The Northwest’s biggest names in aviation will pool their resources to help kick-start a regional biofuel industry.
Portland International Airport, Boeing and Alaska Airlines, among others, will collaborate on the Sustainable Aviation Fuels Northwest project, whose goal is to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint and dependence on petroleum.
The first of its kind collaboration in the U.S. will assess the region’s biofuel plant matter availability, conversion technologies and potential for an economically sustainable supply chain.
