Battery-powered house debuts with smog-eating roof

A house powered by batteries and solar panels and equipped with a smog-eating roof debuted today in West Lancaster, Calif.

"This remarkable new house is truly the home of the future," said Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris, about the prototype built by KH Home and BYD, a manufacturer of clean energy technologies. To promote it, the city waived local development fees and expedited approvals for its construction, which began in March.
