Montana Means Energy, July 2010

THE GOVERNOR’S CORNER – Wind for Schools

On May 25th, I had the honor of helping to install the new Wind for Schools turbine at Fergus High School in Lewistown. This important program has been one that my administration has supported wholeheartedly. Not only does the 2.4 kW turbine generate electricity, but it is an important educational tool needed to help train Montana kids for Montana jobs.

The goal of Wind for Schools is to engage rural communities in a discussion of wind energy while encouraging a knowledge and skill base for the industry. The program will serve as a platform for teaching renewable energy principles and opportunities by providing schools with educational curriculum and access to state-of-the-art technology.

I’m proud that our state was one of the very first to be chosen for this program. It just goes to show that Montana is leading the nation in all types of wind energy development from community projects like this to industrial generation facilities.
