Geraldine, Montana thrives on ingenuity

Whether it’s supplementing a farm or ranch income or a desire to live in a particular community, entrepreneurship has always been an important piece of the economy in rural areas, said Kathie Bailey, executive director for Snowy Mountain Development Corp. http://www.snowymtndev.com/site/ , a regional economic development organization in central Montana.

Amy Wentz was ready for a change of scenery when she road the train from Pennsylvania to Havre more than two years.

"I was looking to buy a small bar, I had been running a coffee shop in a farmers market," said Wentz.

An online search led her to the Square Butte County Club http://russell.visitmt.com/listings/10695.htm , a bar and restaurant in the ranching community of Square Butte, located seven miles south east of Geraldine along Highway 80.

She and her son rented a car and arrived at business the next day.

"We walked in and my son said ‘I know you are going to buy this,’" Wentz recalled.
