Cleantech: Venture firms invest $2 billion in second quarter

Cleantech companies attracted $2.02 billion in venture investments worldwide in the second quarter of this year, according to a preliminary tally released Thursday by the Cleantech Group and Deloitte.

The flow of venture dollars was on par with the first quarter, when $2.04 billion was invested, and was up 43 percent from the same period a year ago.

Biofuels, energy efficiency, smart grid, solar and transportation regularly vie with each other for being the top venture categories. In the first quarter, transportation — which includes electric vehicles, advanced batteries and charging infrastructure — was the leading cleantech sector.
