Program keeps doctors in Montana – 5 of 6 residency graduates plan to practice in state

Five of the six 2010 graduates of the Montana Family Medical Residency program in Billings will either stay in or return to Montana to practice, continuing the program’s trend of keeping doctors in-state at levels higher than the national average.

The program, established in 1995, is Montana’s only graduate medical education program. During a ceremony Wednesday night, residency director Dr. Roxanne Fahrenwald said the six women who graduated from the three-year program this year had a “sometimes wild ride” full of long hours and grueling work.

“We know you made it, because you’re here,” she said. “And you’re all totally ready.”
