Montana winning friends fast on Facebook

The thing is, Montana is just cooler than Minnesota.

That’s the way Charlie Doughty, 27, saw it and who can blame him? So when he noticed that his Minnesota-born girlfriend had become a fan of Minnesota’s official Facebook page, the Great Falls native made this gentleman’s wager:

“I bet Montana can get more friends than Minnesota.”

“It got really big, really quick,” Doughty said in a phone interview from his home in Arizona.

Today, the fan page http://www.facebook.com/visitmontana Doughty started on his own computer while attending college in Wisconsin is now Montana’s official Facebook page, with more than 42,000 fans and more signing up at a rate of about 100 per day.
