San Francisco seeks immediate halt to PG&E’s Smart Meter program

San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera asked state regulators to stop PG&E from installing SmartMeters until the independent investigation into their accuracy is complete.

The move, detailed in a petition filed Thursday with the California Public Utilities Commission, marks the first time that a city within PG&E’s vast territory has officially asked for SmartMeter installations to be halted.

"Common sense should argue against installing millions of defective SmartMeters until their problems are fixed and questions about their accuracy are fully resolved," Herrera said in a statement. "Unfortunately, when a company lacks common sense, it means regulators need to do their job to protect the common interest."
