Ask local business owners about the work-related issues that weigh most heavily on their minds, and you’ll likely get answers that include the following:

Inventory management, advertising challenges, employee management and making rent.

Few, however, would likely list landscaping as a priority, said Jennie Meinershagen, a Missoula landscape architect who specializes in working with businesses’ natural assets.

Meinershagen is an expert in integrated site design, which is less about planting flower gardens – although she does – and more about putting a store’s business philosophy, services and products to work in a landscape design that gets people in the front door.
