The Internet is brimming with free stuff. Anyone can join Facebook or Twitter, take advantage of their myriad features, and not pay a cent.
So why have 1 million people paid to use a social networking website called MyLife?
The 8-year-old company — formerly called Reunion.com — has convinced a large slice of its 30 million registered users to pay $9.95 a month for people-search services, profiles of nearly every living U.S. adult (more than 200 million) based on publicly available information.
