I wanted to let you know that Montana now has a newly chartered chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) http://www.pmimtchapter.org/ .

PMI is the world’s leading not-for-profit membership association for the project management profession, with more than half a million members and credential holders in 185 countries. The group focuses heavily on professional development of project managers. It does worldwide advocacy for project management that is supported by globally-recognized standards and credentials, extensive research programs, and professional development opportunities. These products and services are the basis of greater recognition and acceptance of project management’s successful role in governments, organizations, academia and industries.

The new Chapter’s web site can be found at http://www.pmimtchapter.org/index and http://www.pmi.org is the global organization’s site.

The Project Management discipline is important to many in the technology, biotech, manufacturing and other industries. Having a PMP certification (Project Management Professional) is often a prerequisite for hiring.

Here’s a recent example from the IT world: http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/012010-why-project-management-certifications.html?page=1

There is a PMI Montana Leadership team headed up by one of founding members and now President of the Chapter, Mike Groehning. Given our state’s size, Mike and the leadership team are creating geographically located branches and we have started a new Western Montana Branch to cover the Missoula and Bitterroot Valley areas. GlaxoSmithKline, Northrup Grumman, Glacier Bancorp, Affiliated Computer Service and Blackfoot Telecommunications http://www.blackfoot.com are among the sponsors of the State Chapter.

In addition to the Missoula / Bitterroot area, brand new branches have just been established in Billings and Kalispell.

Thanks,

Chris Kirschten
