Many Silicon Valley start-up companies work from home

Airbnb’s 10 employees huddle around a coffee table in an apartment in San Francisco’s hip South of Market neighborhood for a companywide meeting.
The apartment, in an area that is more affordable than many in the city, is headquarters for the start-up, a nearly 2-year-old online marketplace for budget travelers looking for offbeat accommodations.
"Today, companies are fundamentally less corporate," says Brian Chesky, co-founder of Airbnb. "Start-ups need to be frugal and create a family-like atmosphere."
