Small price for kids’ futures – Levy benefits Missoula students most of all – in their own words

As we think back 10 years, our most vivid memories of elementary school are comprised of recesses spent on the swing sets, hours reading “Magic Tree House” books, and learning the dreaded multiplication tables.

However, as we finish our senior year, we look to the more basic aspects of our education. Missoula County Public Schools has provided all three of us with a diverse but equally strong foundation that has given us countless opportunities. From accelerated science to leadership seminars to athletics, we have taken drastically different approaches to our education.

We have each forged our own path for the future and want to thank those who have given us their undying support as we encourage continuation of this support in the upcoming years.

Tawney Hughes is a student at Sentinel High School, Mitch Colyer is a student at Big Sky High School and Miles Douglas is a student at Hellgate High School.

Small price for kids’ futures

As Montana’s economy continues to stumble along, with the statewide unemployment rate at 7.1 percent at last count, it sometimes seems as if everyone has his hand out. It’s a tough time for Missoula County Public Schools to ask voters to approve a levy, and Superintendent Alex Apostle is well aware of that.

That’s why this modest levy, while just enough to take the sting out of the school district’s battered budget, is not so high that it just transfers the financial pain from schools to taxpayers.
