Mountain FM (KMSO) has called Missoula home for the past 25 years

In 1985, the world watched as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was officially opened, wreckage of the Titanic was discovered, and piano man Billy Joel married uptown girl Christie Brinkley.

In the same year, in a small space in the Florence Building on Front Street in Missoula, Max Murphy and Sheila Callahan formed Mountain Broadcasting, and began what would be a 25-year run at shaping local news and radio programming in western Montana.

On Feb. 9, the pair celebrated that quarter-century of serving the Garden City from the 102.5 frequency on the FM dial.

“Twenty-five years to us is surprising,” Callahan commented on the eve of the occasion. “This business is so fast-paced, the time has just flown by.”

Much has changed in 25 years, she says.
