How well are U.S. colleges run?

"People aren’t convinced that colleges are spending their money wisely and well."

Even as Americans increasingly view a college education as essential for success, they are growing more skeptical of how higher-education institutions are being run, a report says.

Sixty percent of Americans, for example, believe colleges care more about their bottom line than they do educating students, up from 55% last year and 52% in 2007, says the report, based on a series of surveys launched in 1993. And 60% agree that colleges could enroll a lot more students without lowering quality or raising prices.
