Internship or Short Term Contract: Cost Accountant & Financial Analyst

Overview
Outstanding career development opportunity for an intern, recent accounting graduate or newly qualified accountant (specializing in cost accounting) seeking to gain work experience in the cleantech/renewable energy sector combined with the opportunity of living and working in West Africa.
Company Background
Buchanan Renewables is focused on growing Liberia’s energy capacity using its own non-producing rubberwood resources for fuel – effectively helping it become energy independent while at the same time helping it rejuvenate one of its most important industries.
Role Description
As a recently established organization, Buchanan Renewables (“BR”) continues to develop its management processes and systems. A key component is the development of robust cost management and performance management capabilities. BR is seeking to hire a cost accountant and financial analyst to lead the development and management of these capabilities.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Work with local data collections teams to ensure most efficient data capture techniques and to ensure accuracy of data collected
2. Analyze data and prepare weekly management reports highlighting variance between actual costs and target
3. Analyze proposed changes in activities, cost drivers and key performance indicators to determine effects on costs
4. Collaborate on projects aimed at reducing costs and improving profitability
5. Work with Controller to recruit and develop local cost accountants
6. Collaborate with our Advisers to develop and install a computerized cost accounting system
Skills and Qualifications
• Degree in financial management with specialization in cost accounting
• Strong knowledge of and comfort with cost accounting systems
• Pro-active and ability to adapt quickly in dynamic environments
• Experience with and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and different accounting software
• Experience teaching or training is a plus
Contract Terms
• Start Date: As soon as possible
• Term: Flexible. Six months with the possibility of extension depending on business needs
• Salary: Depends on qualifications and experience of candidate
