Bresnan’s $70M Montana high-speed Internet network project rejected

Federal officials have rejected Bresnan Communications’ proposal to use $70 million in federal stimulus funds to build a new high-speed Internet network that crisscrosses Montana.

Bresnan http://www.bresnan.com/ and the 1,400 other nationwide applicants rejected last week have been encouraged to reapply for a second round of funding, but the company hasn’t decided yet what it may do, said company spokesman Shawn Beqaj in Purchase, N.Y.

The Bresnan proposal, one of a dozen applications to use stimulus funds in Montana to expand high-speed Internet services, had been blasted by small rural telephone companies and cooperatives in the state.
