"Reflections of a Country Doctor" Longtime Sidney, Montana physician shares his stories in new book

Ashcraft noted that during his 25 years in Sidney, he was available 24 hours, seven days a week.

“That was my job. That was my vocation, that’s what we did as doctors,” Ashcraft said. “Now, some doctors may say ‘I’m not on call or I’m out of here.’ That just wasn’t me.”

He noted, however, that he still made more than 90 percent of his children’s activities because of the small size of Sidney. Ashcraft says that closeness of such towns can result in excellent health care.
