Montana school children are reminded that all data on Web is public forever

For the second time this school year, Choteau students heard a strong message about the need to use digital media carefully in today’s wireless world.

Before breaking for the holiday, students in sixth through 12th grades attended an “I Rock Responsibility 2.1C” program designed to clue them in on the dangers that misusing the Internet, cell phones, digital cameras, on-line games, file-sharing software and social networking sites can pose.

The presenter, Richard Guerry, is the executive director of the Institute for Responsible Online and Cell-Phone Communication http://www.iroc2.org/, based in Mount Laurel, N.J.

He is lobbying Congress for a public service announcement to be carried on the packing of all digital media. The warning would read: “Your activity with any digital device is public and permanent. Poor digital judgment often leads to immediate, life-altering and irreversible consequences. You are responsible for all of your actions when using digital technology.”
