Ravalli County voices support for Darby Special Events Center

The county is lending its weight to a project to transform a former lumber mill in Darby into a huge special events center.

County commissioners on Wednesday signed a letter of support for the South Valley Special Events Center.

The center would be built on 40 acres which once housed a Champion International sawmill and today has the polluted by-products of that mill’s operations.

Cal Ruark, president of the center, said the facility would include an outdoor arena with seating for 5,000 and an indoor 10,000 square foot facility with two gyms, a formal room, three floors of offices, and a sprawling multipurpose auditorium.
