3 Rivers Communications sketches out cost-cutting measures

Officials cite economy, infrastrucure funding needs

One area business, 3 Rivers Communications http://www.3rivers.net/ , is making changes and tightening its belt as the telephone-Internet-cable TV company heads into 2010.

Company General Manager Steven R. Krogue emphasized that the federally-organized cooperative, based in Fairfield, is financially solid, and with some adjustments, the company’s goal is to maintain that standing for years to come. “We are very strong financially with $50 million in owner equity and carrying only $20 million in long-term debt,” Krogue said.

However as most businesses, 3 Rivers Communications is feeling the economic downturn. Krogue cited the economic conditions and a gap in infrastructure funding as the two main reasons for some immediate changes within the company.
